USB 3.0 Header to USB 3.0 Male Adapter

Not sure what you are talking about here. The single blue connector at the end gets connected to the usb 3.0 header on the motherboard. If your motherboard doesn't have a usb 3.0 header then it won't work.

Well, I'm trying to have the USB 3.0 header adapt into a USB 3.0 plug. This is not for a computer and there is no motherboard involved.

I am essentially creating my own USB 3.0 hub for a device I am making, and I need the hub to run solely off a single USB 3.0 port.

John,

I have a USB 3.0 PCI-e adapter card. And I have no USB 3.0 header ports on motherboard to plug it into - does that also mean that I could never use it?

I simply thought the header port coming off the adapter was for connecting a cable from there (at the back of the PC) to a front panel that has USB 3.0 connectivity, or a 3.5" or 5.25" device taking up a bay above or below where a DVD-writer might be.

Let me know, cuz if I have no use for that thing, I might as well get rid of it :(

Here's what I got: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=17Z-0002-00002

You don't need a header to use a PCIe card. The card has everything it needs. The only time you use a header on the motherboard is for front panel USB's or add-in bay adapters that have them on them. The header on that card is used for the same thing.

Okay, well that's cool AND weird cuz I kept having this weird driver issue with the card. So I assumed it was because I didn't have it hooked up by cable to something. Maybe it was because I didn't install the card in the right order. I can't remember typically which way it was, but I thought it was hardware first, then software. And now that doesn't even sound right :)

So, all I have to do is hook up a Molex connector to the card and get that driver to install correctly and I should have 2 x USB 3.0 ports on the back of my PC?

Yes. The steps are right, hardware, then driver.

The driver on the CD may be bad if you have issues. May need to get it from the manufacturer website or use a generic driver.

With something like that you usually install the software first, shut the system down, install the hardware and then boot up and the driver will get installed.

That pci express card just gives you usb 3.0 ports when your motherboard doesn't have them. So if your case has a front usb 3.0 panel then you would attach the usb 3.0 header to the blue port on that card. And of course you would need a molex connector from the power supply.

Are my Super Speed (3.0) speeds going to be just as fast with that PCI-e card as someone with a motherboard that comes with ALL and ONLY USB 3.0 connectivity ports? Or will I have slower speeds cuz of the bus or whatever?

The reason I ask this is because of me knowing (or assuming) that my SATA speeds are slower because of my SATA speed on the motherboard, regardless of whether a ssd or hard drive is designed for the fastest SATA speeds available.

Thanks.

Todays drivers don't come anywhere close to reaching the max speed allowed by sata. As far as the usb 3.0 goes, you should be close to regular 3.0 speeds because of the bus.
