Usb 3.0

Response

My understanding is that USB 3.0 computers will be launching the first half of next year and that USB 3.0 will be fully backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

Yeah, but I think the computer's USB ports have to be USB 3.0 to get that speed. I guess he is asking if it will work, yes, but it won't get the 3.0 speed if his computer is not 3.0.

Is your PC 3.0 or just the device?

It's a self-built rig, but no, none of the current USB ports are 3.0. I don't have an actual PCIe 3.0 device. Just thought perhaps one would work regardless of the fact that the USB ports on my mobo are 2.0. But now that I've thought about it, I suppose my mobo doesn't have the bus speeds to get up to that fast (5Gbps).

Thanks for the replies. But I guess I just answered my own question. Didn't think of it earlier though.

Yes the card will work. Plus at 3.0 speeds. Doesnt matter if your board has integrated 2.0 or not.

Like said. It doesn't matter what kind of usb ports the pc has.

The pcie usb 3.0 card fits in the pci slot, so, yeah, it'll be usb 3.0 with that card.
