USB 3 port external

I just use any or all as usb period. Example, a external Seagate Barracuda drive. Do i need a special external interface for speed performance to utilize the USB3 port. Or is it the drive too. Never paid much attention to it. Looking though for higher transfers with external. I have to drives now internal.
just learning, again........

In order to obtain USB 3.0 speeds you need a device capable of USB 3.0, most devices are still USB 2.0. You also need a USB 3.0 certified cable (99% sure on that), and a USB 3.0 controller on your computer.

Im guess for the external drive the Barracuda will be ok. I have a cheap rosewill interface that works fine. Your saying i need something different that supports the transfers for usb3 and thats it. Would i be correct and good to go?

You need to be sure the enclosure is a USB 3.0 enclosure. Not all of them are.

Ok, thanks for the info.
I might as well ask though and finish it up. Will there be a big difference in speed?
Will it be equivalent to the internal. That would make up my mind. Or is it a waste
considering its on a usb 1 or 2. I just don't want to waste money. Faster would work though.

thankyou

USB 1.1 - 12Mbps
USB 2.0 - 480Mbps
USB 3.0 - 4000Mbps
eSATA - 2400Mbps

Mind you that speed is theoretical and you don't really see these speeds in reality.
