USB extension cables?

Hi, I am looking at the USB extension cables sold by different companies. I need a 20 foot USB extension cable to hook my "IR Remote Control Receiver" to my TV tuner card on my PC. The cable box and computer are on opposite sides of the room so I need a cable of decent length.

However, the longest USB extension cable I have seen so far is 16-16.5 Ft, I measured the distance and this is just not enough. So can I get two 10 Ft USB cables, and connect them in series so I can get a 20 Ft cable? Or would this setup not work? Thanks for your help.

Chris

Edit: I also noticed many of these cables only support USB 1.1, is that good enough to operate a IR Remote Control Receiver?

It should work, don't see why it wont do. The cable's shouldn't limit the transfer speed, most if not all cables on the market today will be USB 2.0 compatible.

Great thanks, I had no past experiences with USB Extension cables. I was thinking the reason they didn't make a USB extension cable more than 16 Ft was because the signal would degrade after that point.

16 feet is quoted in USB specs as the maximum run using standard USB cables and then degradation of the signal occurs, you can join extensions up to this length then you need to join an "active" extension. This looks the same but has electronics built in to amplify the signal, and costs roughly twice as much as a passive cable.

That sucks, I got to go thru that just to add another 4 feet. Now I have to see where I can get this cable, don't have many good electronic stores in my area.
