So about a month and a half ago I bought a new zotac mag ion net top to use as my home theater pc and a velocity external DVD drive and a usb bluetooth adapter for my wireless keyboard. I immediately had problems with the bluetooth chip. Sometimes it would be recognized correctly when the computer booted up, sometimes it wouldnt be. Sometimes it would connect to my keyboard, sometimes it wouldnt and i would see errors in device manager saying thatair was an unrecognized device etc. I initially attributed this to it being a very cheap piece of equipment and didn't put much stalk in the errors. However, in my attempts to then use the external usb dvd drive i discovered many more errors. With many dvds i would get an error about it being the improper region despite the fact that device manager says the drive is for region 1 as are all of my DVDs. To further complicate the issue, in windows media center, half the time it won't even show a DVD drive as an option to play from and when it does show the DVD icon, after selecting play it trigs an error saying that the proper files are not installed. This is all very inteesting because if I attempt to play the dvd in VLC it will play for a while and then trigger the region code or some other error and if i attempt to play it in XBMC, the dvd works flawlessly. As well, and this is the kicker, when i plug either the bluetooth stick or the drive into another computer they both work fine.
To give a little bit of history, I first installed windows 7 on the conputer, but let the trial expire because i thought I'd just use a copy of vista I already had. I got sick of vista and installed a clean copy of windows 7. Throughout every opeating system it has had these problems. Now, if I put any kind of DVD in the drive it will spin, show up in my computer for a few seconds, then the whole drive disappears for a few sevonds, then comes back, then turns off etc. And it isnt just media dvds. I cant even install office . I get through a few screens till it starts the install then it triggers an error message that says it can't continue.
I thought this might be a hardware problem because vie reinstalled windows so many times with no changes, but am very confused by the fact that XBMC (xbox media center--its a pc media center) will play everything without issue.
I am very confused. I work quite a bit with computers and enjoy them a great deal but this has me baffled...
