USB Keyboard and Mouse On 2 Computers

I have 2 computers running on 1 screen. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse on 1 computer (with a usb receiver) and a wired keyboard and mouse on the other. I would like to know.... if i bought a USB switch, could i use the wireless keyboard and mouse on both computers by switching the switch every time i wanted to change?
Or would the computers get confused?

Thanks

If you could find a sort of basic USB switch you should be fine seeing as USB is essentially plug and play so you can switch between it without a problem. Now if you used the more traditional PS2, you may have to use something like a KVM switch that essentially emulates the keyboard on both/all the computers. That is also an option; a KVM switch. I'm not sure if that's what you meant or not, but they aren't that expensive and can share the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and some share speakers...

I have found a USB switch, i just doubted whether it would work as when i have plugged a PS2 keyboard or mouse into a (already running) computer it wont recognise it until it restarts and i didnt know whether it would be the same with USB or not.

USB supports what is called "plug and play". This means that you can plug a device in and you can use it without having to restart the computer.

oh ok. just to check.. switching a usb keyboard and mouse over 2 other computers wont do any harm to my computer will it?

I guess it really depends on how the switch works, but I can't imagine it harming anything. Do you have a link/model/whatever for the switch in question?

That's not what you need. That's traditionally used to hook up one printer or device of some sort to two computers. A USB KVM switch is really going to be the best way for you to do what you are looking to do. It will allow you to use one monitor, one mouse and one keyboard on two towers. I know you can't order from this site, but this is exactly the thing that you need, and it's not very expensive and works quite well.
