USB Keyboard through PS/2 adapter to power up the PC

I need to replace my old, cheap (but great) PS/2 keyboard. I couldn't find the kind of keyboard that I had in mind because the selection of PS/2 keyboards is extremely poor nowadays. So, it looks like I'm getting a USB keyboard after all. This one is probably it:

With my current (PS/2) keyboard I can power up my PC by either pressing the spacebar or the on/off button (depending on the bios setting) and yes, I have a on/off button on my keyboard that I can also use for system shutdown. They don't make them anymore like the used to... Oh, well...

My MB is Asus P8P67pro. Will I be able to power up the PC by pressing the spacebar on the Dell (USB) keyboard? I know that USB keyboards have a problem in that department. So how about a USB to PS/2 adapter? Will that do the trick? What about the keyboard's functionality? There are a bunch of "extra" keys/buttons on this keyboard but all I need to work are the volume controls. Unfortunately, instead of the usual run-of-the-mill "volume up" and "volume down" buttons, this keyboard has this control wheel that's trying to be fancy, so I'm concerned how it's going to be affected when the keyboard is plugged into the legacy port via an adapter.

Your thoughts?
Thanks!

PS: I'm on Windows 7. If you know for a fact that this particular Dell keyboard requires proprietary software (not drivers) to function properly, then it would be a big no-no for me.

As long as you have the "wake on" feature enabled in the bios for the keyboard then it should power on with a press of a button. The keyboard shouldn't need anything special to work.

Thank you but can anyone confirm that any standard USB keyboard can turn on my computer (with my particular chipset) when connected to a USB port?

I'd try a PS/2 to USB adapter. I've used one myself. Since they're not expensive, if it doesn't work, you haven't lost much money.
