USB Location(s)

Hello, I haven't been to this forum for a long time but I've posted before, so hello again!

I have a hp mobile usb drive and it has always been located under the usb port, "E:" but now it's located under "F:"

The "E:" port replaced my other small-er usb drive.

I've removed them both and plugged in the mobile first so that it becomes "E:" but it still gives it "F:" even though the other one is either not plugged in, or is plugged in afterward.

I need it to be "E:" because all my music is directed to "E:" I've thought about deleting the list on my iTunes and re-importing all the music... which I really don't want to do.

I just want to switch the letter :o

Are you familiar with the disk management tool found in "Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage"? once there you double click on the storage to open up to the options seen here and right click on the F drive to choose the "change drive letter" option.

That should help you there. You will have to note the different icons seen between the two optical drives illustrated and that of the hard drives installed on the system here. For the usb flash this can only work after the drive letter is changed on the internal drive. Windows will then automatically assign a different letter for the flash drive when plugged in.

Even long term experienced techs have to leave room for learning something new as you can see from the rapid turnover of hardware technologies. You always have to keep updating your own skills. ;)

Does anyone why the shadow appearing for each icon on the desktop(above picture)? Because it happened to me and I deleted my account to get rid of it(stupid, in it?lol)

This a space that Windows opens to surround the text seen under each icon. The advanced button in the appearance section of the desktop properties has some control over this. One difference can be seen right away when switching between the Classic Windows appearance and the XP style. Well this screen here also includes a little "Vista transformation" as well.
