USB Memory Stick Encryption In School

Hi, My son has just started his new secondary school in September 2010 and bought a memory stick with him (no surprise there) but about a week later he left it in one of the school computers and somebody stole it. As his Dad I got him a new one, but he lost that one to, and it just keeps on going like this.
So I asked him to get a new memory stick and see if TrueCrypt would work with his school network it didn't; then I tried Microsoft's BitLocker even though his school has XP it still wouldn't accept it.
Please reply with any ideas you have that might work.

Thanks, JBarnes

I really dont see the need to encrypt the info. Its just secondary school, not like your kid has proprietary info on that drive. Is there a reason why you have such a need for encryption?

And if he left his flash drive in a computer lab, it probably wasn't stolen but more likely just thrown away by the people working there. Its happened to me!

Just have him attach he flash drive to something he carries a lot, like his keys, his phone or a backpack. I had mine tethered to my backpack on a 1 foot cord. After I tied it to my backpack I didn't take it off for over 2 years, I kept it tucked in a deep interior pocket away from any moist/dusty environments. Also, most phones have a lanyard string hold he could use, I'd suggest this unless he is pretty rough with his phone.

And my suggestion for him to stop losing it would be to make him buy them, those drives aren't cheap! He'll learn to hang onto them.

if you really want no hassle encryption buy a sandisk cruzer that requires the password everytime you insert it so even if someone takes it, it will be useless without password

The new Sandisk Cruzer no longer support U3 launch pad. (what a pity) So he need to get a different source. I bought a few 16gb sticks for the same reason only to find out they can't load U3 launch pad anymore.:( he might lucky if can find some old ones that still support U3 Launch pad.
