hi guys. I accidently spilt a glass of water over my USB memory stick and now when i plug it in, it doesn't come up on the screen. I have very important files on it as well which i do not have backed up anywhere else!!. Any idea how i can get them back?? i heard you can take it to a shop where they can take the memory out of it and get the data back for you? is this true? any help would be appretiated as the files are very important!! thnx!

if you can try to open up the casing on it to see if its still wet inside... if it is let it dry ompletely and it might work again when you put it back together... sadly though it doesn't look promising

go out and buy 99% isopropyl alcohol and drop the stick in it, shake it up a bit, then take it out, put it infront of a fan overnight (id do it for atleast that long) and try agai

What does that isopropyl alcohol do? drop the whole stick in it. I tried pluggin it in agen and it detects it but i cant open the files. It says to format it but i dont want to because the files should be on there somewhere.

The alcohol will dry up any remaining water inside the unit as well as, clean the contacts. If you have someone pull those files off of that drive, you will pay a premium. (usually very expensive but, I could be wrong)

I use a program called Getbackdata. It works like a charm. Basically, you install it on your machine and open it up, then plug in the drive that you need the files from and tell it pull those files from your drive. I've used it on so many different drives that have crashed and it has worked every time. They allow you to use it for free but, if you want to copy the whole drive, you gotta purchase a license.

Unfortunately, I believe that those programs are only useful on hard drives or other storage media and not the flash drives... Try what Ku-sama said, but in most cases when the flash memory goes on one of these things, it's gone for good (unless you replace the bad capacitors, and even then it usually resets the memory...) More than likely your goose is cooked, but it won't hurt to try the alcohol, but just remember to save those files on to a hard drive in the future :)...
