hi there ppl, this is my first post here, and I really hope u can help me to solve this problem:

I bougth a laptop yesterday and an USB mouse as well (plug-n-play)... I tried to get the mouse to work, but it simply doesn't!
in the instructions it only says that what I need to do is insert the USB receptor in the USB gate on the laptop, then press a little button on that same receptor and then press also a little button in the mouse... I do all that but the mouse seems to be dead, doesn't move at all! and the strangest thing is that on the screen I get a message saying that the hardware was installed successfully and was ready to use...

can someone help me with this major problem, plz?

P.S.: I have to say that the mouse is a "Targus" from the "Vista Ready" series, so it was supposed to work with no probs in windows vista....

THX;)

Welcome to computer forum! we hope your stay here is the best. :D

ok, so it seems like it is wireless? is this correct? or it is have a cord that goes dirrectaly to the usb?

ok... so i know this may seem like duh but you got to cover the little things. :D. ok. did you install the battery correctly in the mouse? when it says to connect it by pressing the buttons, did you hit the one on the "fob" on your computer and then on the mouse?

yes, the batteries are right and I pressed 1st the button on the "thing that u connect to the computer" (dunno if that is what u call "fob") and only after that I pressed the one on the mouse...

BTW, I can't do much experiments now cuz I'm at work...

When you plugged in the wireless adapter, do windows saya 'new hardware found'.? If it did, either use your keyboard or a PS2 mouse and navigate to Device Manger and if you see a yellow ? then right click or select the properties menu via keyboard and select ipdate drivers, This will then install drivers directly from windows.

I have had to do this before, so try it. Usually mice etc are just plug and play. But try it and then post back.

you must be around the world from me... it is 103 am here. to early for me to work :D. and yes the fob is what you said. o if it is a laser mouse (ie red light comes out) you cant have that on a black surface. a piece of paper will do.

yes, when I plugged and pressed the buttons a message appeared saying that the hardware was installed and ready to use... but I'm not sure if the mouse appeared on the device manager... weird, I know, but I'm not sure... can't try now, though, as I said before I'm at work for the next 6 hours...

BTW, thx for the replies;)

no problem. take your time. but some one will else will have to help you. i have to go on a "camping trip" with my school and will be back friday. good luck.

well, I guess I am around the world then, since here in PORTUGAL it's 09.10am:D

now that added a doubt to my head... THE BATTERIES! did I really put them right?:o

I'm almost sure but... is it normal that the mouse doesn't have any visible lights? cuz I have another optical mouse (not wireless) on another computer and it has a red light underneath, but this new one doesn't have any lights on, and I think next to the laser a light should be on... damn! :o

some new ones have infer red beems so invisable to us but it lights the surface like daytime for electronics.. if you not sure. if you look very very close you can see a small red dot flash if it is infer red

ok, thx for the help, but I can see now that's impossible to do something being not at home to try all those things... I'll have to wait till I go home to do that...

THX, and BTW, have a good "camping trip";)

well, just solved the prob... the batteries were badly placed:D

the problem is: normally there are those springs or whatever u call them where the negative pole of the battery is connected... in this case, those springs are both on the same side, so I thought that the negative poles of both batteries should be on that same side, but now I saw that one of the positive poles has to be connected to one of those springs...:o

sorry guys, and thx for the help;)
