USB movies on an LCD TV?

I have a 42" LG LCD TV and I am trying to play video from a USB drive.

According to LG, it can only play standard definition divX. I have tried converting videos (using the official divx converter) at standard def and it is alright, however as I have a Full HD TV, it is pointless to watch it considering that the videos are high res.

Also from what I can tell, DVD's only support up to 480p. Is this true? And if so then is my only option to buy a bluray player and bluray movies?

There has got to be some way I can play high res movies other than through bluray right? The only way I can currently do it is to hook my desktop computer up to the TV and use it as a monitor...

Can someone please shed some light on my options here? From what I can see, I don't really have any, but if someone has a good suggestion, I'd like to hear it.

Thanks :)

Yes DVD only supports 480p. If your TV wont accept higher resolutions off the flash drive then you should pick up a blu ray player. I personally got a PS3 to use for my blu ray player. I figured I might play games and it cost the same so it was a great deal. If high def is important to you then you need one imo.
