USB not shown in My Computer

Hi i have a problem with my usb drive not showing in my computer and i was woundering if anyone could help me thanks.

I don't know why but when I plug my USB into my pc it will install it and windows can detect that its there, but for some reason it won't show up in my computer so I can't access it. I'm running XP if thats any use.

what kind of usb device are you trying to use?
 
You probably need to assign a letter for the drive..(depending on type of device you are using.)

Is it a jump drive or what?
 
Go into the device manager and look for it under the storage category (assuming, of course, that it is a flash drive)

No drive letter needs to be assigned.
 
I can assign a drive letter to it and can access it from the device manager.
I cannot format the drive it will not let me.
I am using a Flash drive and have tryed with multiple models of flash drives to see if was just my own one but it wasn't.
