I'm looking into getting an external USB PCI-e slot so I can add a separate video card to increase the video performance on my laptop. Does anyone know where I can get one??:confused:

You're joking... the USB interface has no where near the bandwidth required for a high end video card, even low end video cards utilize GB's/s of bandwidth, whereas USB 2.0 has a maximum bandwidth of 480Mbps! Integrated video will be better then anything run off of a USB port.

They do have (at least in the making), an external box with a PCI-E x16 slot that attaches via the PCI-E port built into laptops, instead of cardbus or PCMCIA.

I just found this http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/hands-on-with-the-asus-xg-station-external-gpu/ and one one site they are suggesting $390 would this be worth it? as I too would be interested!
That's what I was talking about in the previous post, but this one uses an ExpressCard slot (a bit slower, but still way better then USB).

Remember though, this is almost 2 years old so it's not going to be that great of a performer by today's standards. Briefly looking at it however leads me to believe that it has it's own GPU built in, so if that's the case then you won't be able to upgrade it again later down the road.

Oh yeah didnt see the date, I Guess it didnt work out that well, Asus doesn't even have it on thier site! It was to be released 2007 so dud on that one!
