USB plugs not working

Ok.... so I tinkered with my comp the other day to clean it out....

But heres the prob.... My front two USB plugs on the front of my computer wont work.....

The wierd thing is that they are both plugged into the motherboard and anything I plug into them receives power, however things like my flash drive, my external drive, and my camera, nothing shows up on screen, its like they are not detected.. yet they are still getting power!!

The plugs worked before, what could be wrong?

Thank you...

nothing out of the usual, but then again I dont really know what im looking for...

Under USB ports, it shows that there are about 7 ports which is correct, but they just dont work ? :-\

Front usb ports are a more common nuisance then they are worth at times. For the last several years the newer cases seen have offered a pair in the front with boards providing the extra block of pins to accomidate them. But despite having power available they are too often not seen in Windows.

One article provides a way around the annoyances that sees by rewiring rear ports to see 2 instead of 1 for each one rewired. The article of course is geared for the more advanced system builder who can wire things well. http://icrontic.com/articles/rewire_usb_ports

On the Antec 900 case here and the Asus board the connectors reaching down from the top don't have a place to go. But I never bother with front or top but may simply plug a hub into a rear port for extra that way. Simply run a good search to see how man go through this on the various forums.

thanks for the advice on how to rewire the backs to the front.... i figured it out sorta... i turned off the rig, unplugeed them from my board, plugged them back in and viola, they work again!

The plugs may have been lifted up a little explaining the problems you were seeing. Once you reseated them you saw them go on all the way. But there are many threads about problems seen using the front while the rear ports are generally reliable.

If you ever decide to try what was is seen in the article do so with real caution since those wires are delicate. People have seen those ripped out of the ports. You may have simply nodged the plugs there while working on case if you originally had them down good. Great to see you have them working.
