USB port issue

I have an Evo N800c laptop (I know, its a dinosaur), with 2 usb ports. But only one of them works properly. When I stick my thumb drive into the none-working port the light on the thumb drive flashes once, and then nothing happens. The first time i plugged it in, my laptop tried to install the software for it automatically, but there was an error, and it said that my hardware may not function properly. Can anyone help?
 
Yes, i also plugged in a wireless mouse and keyboard adapter, and all the light did was blink once, and then, NOTHING :mad:
