usb ports dont work....

Hello,
At one of my relatives place of business, they have a computer that deals with large images (around 60mb). To copy those off there, the only way to do it is to burn a disc, for some reason. It has about 6 USB ports on it, and when you plug a flash drive, or hard drive into it, it does the Windows sound effect that means you have plugged a device in, but it doesnt show up in anything, including device manager. Does this mean that somebody may have disabled the USB ports? I thought that to begin with but then on the back USB ports, it has a scanner and printer plugged into it. Is there anyway i can reactivate the USB ports?

Thanks

are we talking about 1 computer or all the computers?

if it's 1 then it may be resolved by inserting the usb device in, hear the sound, then choose "scan for new hardware" in control panel

also, perhaps changing the front panel usb connector to another connector if possible

Scan for new hardware, and try looking in My Computer, as said above.

If it's ringing that sound, it's detecting it, and the USB ports are not disabled.

just a thought:

if the PC has a mapped network drive taking up the E:\ partition, map it to a diff drive letter and try putting in the flash drive again.

I say this because i came across a similar situation on my work PC and it was because my flash drive default to using the e:\ drive letter but if it is occupied it doesn't show up at all despite the PC recognizing it

if that's not the case....try re-installing the driver perhaps? (for the USB ports)

Do the things you put in the usb still work? example, Wireless mouses, Charges, cooling pads dont show up i do believe
