Hey guys,

i have recently run into a problem where all of my usbs on my MB will not charge my usb devices such as mouse and keyboard that require it as a power source. My camera hookup and printer both work because they dont require the usb to use power. Any idea how this happen?? i can not charge my mouse battery and my keyboard will not even start up. Let me know if anyone knows why this may be happening. It is an A8n-SLI Deluxe MB. Logitech g7 mouse and belkin mediapilot keyboard.

Mice and keyboards are primarily input devices. The idea of charging Lithium batteries with the tight current restrictions does present problems. I have been MS optical mice without batteries on usb posts for some time now. A good site to visit that provides a good explaination on where your problems are being seen is at http://pdfserv.maxim-ic.com/en/an/AN3241.pdf

Another manufacturer has similar information seen at http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/appnote_number/3241 Knowing that both the camera setup and printer are not seeing problems try switching the ports to see if that will make a difference.

That's kind of awkward if it doesn't charge your G7 batteries, LOL.
I'm using a G7 and G15 now, I remember when I first got my G7.. and I had one battery dead, and another battery flashing red.. I was like ooohhh crap, please don't die battery =( Becuase if you die, I won't be able to use a mouse :P
hope you have your spare ps2 or oldy usb wired mouse handy :/

Oh, and this problem happened on my old computer.
I had a crap PSU, and it didn't have enough power to supply it to all the USB devices, so it just wouldn't work at times.
Then another time, it was a crap mainboard with faulty USB ports :P

Too bad the mouse and keyboard didn't have PS2 adapters rather then relying mainly on usb. But that can also be a drawback when you find you still need a cheapie $10 keyboard since the F8 won't during a software installation yets works when first booting the system? In particular the F8 key on and MS model programmable keyboard "doesn't work" when reaching the license agreement when installing Windows? Give me a break! Stay hard wired! It saves a lot of headaches.
