USB problem

I have a rather interesting problem. I built my desktop about 8 years ago. I've made a few upgrades and it is actually still a pretty decent gaming computer. We've been through a lot together but I've never had a problem like this. I have a rather large desk and some of my devices don't reach the computer so I bought a USB hub with a USB extension cable. As soon as I plugged it in my internet stopped working. I use a usb wireless adapter. After some quick tests I determined that the hub is some how causing the wifi adapter to turn off. Is it possible that the hub draws too much power away from the other ports? I'm not really sure how to fix this.

What specific hub did you get? Do you have a plethora of other devices on the hub as well?

Usually you'd want a powered hub as non-powered hubs only draw what is available from the single USB port (which is typically 500 mA).

You can likely leave the wifi dongle on the PC and see if your peripherals still function over the hub by themselves.

Its only a four port hub and I'm only using two of the ports as of right now. I'm not even using all the usb ports on the computer. I mainly just got the hub as a fix for my distance issue, rather than get a bunch of extension cables just one cable and a hub.

You will need a powered hub I believe. Do you have the wireless adapter plugged into the hub or is it plugged into usb on the computer? Get a powered hub and you should be good.
