USB Problems

I have just purchased a 1 gig flashIT usb drive but my computer will not recognise it. I have checked the manufacturers website and apparently you don't need a driver if you are running windows XP. My computer will not recognise my Sony PSP as well. It does however recognise my ipod and my digital camera. I am using a Packard Bell Imedia computer with 2 usb's ports at the rear, and 2 at the front. I have tried all but still not happening. I have a HP laptop and it recognises everything. ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.
Thanks. Mick from downunder.

Did this computer originally come with Windows XP installed? If not, what OS originally came with the computer?

The only thing I can think of is that this is a cheaper flash drive that might not be completely compatible... (I've never heard of this brand, maybe 'cause it's Australian?) Anyway, see if you can exchange it for another one and see if that fixes the issue...

You can try and see if there are any firmware upgrade for your usb ports. It doesn't hurt to check. If it is XP, just go into your device manager. Right click on your "My Computer" and click on Properties. Then move over to the "Hardware" tab and click on device manager. Look for your usb ports and go to it's properties (double click on it). Click on driver and update it. If you have an internet connection, it might automatically check online for you if it doesn't find any.

I tried to upgrade via device manager but it says that I have the latest upgrade. My son has a usb flash drive also, called a datatraveler, by Kingston, but I have the same problem with that. Thats why I purchased this latest one, the flashIT.

Is your XP on SP2? I have 4 diff brands of flash drives, some i have tried on win98 some worked fine others dont even on XP, some can store to its limits some cant. these drives are unpredictable. i suggest getting those brands that others already have and use without a problem.

Yes, My XP is on SP2. Can you suggest a brand of flash drive that works on XP.
Also, I can't workout why my psp isn't recognized either. I have been to many PSP forums and followed their advice but still no go.
Thanks Mate.

We have brands here you never see anywhere. very cheap even we have 1Gb flash drive that cost $20. i dont know, i guess just keep on trying them all.
