i'm not sure that this is the place but lets ask i want to charge a device using a usb of a computer while the computer/laptop is off is there any software or ... i dont know that can power the usb while the computer is off

sorry if this is the wrong place to ask

thx

Some computers actually allow power through USB whilst the computer is off
But generally when the computer is off, its off ;)

You need an external power adaptor that you can just plug into the wall outlet (just like the laptop has ;))

i think it would have to be in hibernate or something, because when your PC is off, your motherboard isn't powered, which means it can't power the USB ports.

I actually had a real old computer and USB was still on when the computer was off (obviously power cord in the computer still)
It may have been a faulty computer though, but who knows, I'll just agree that computer is off - USB is off, for argument sake

i will travel about 2 days and it will be nice to have my phone or PSP on but i dont think that its if the laptop is on with a off screen it would last more that .... 8 hours or maybe less is it possible to leave the usb on some how throw the BIOS ?

So you want to charge you phone and PSP using your laptop. Well unless your laptop us plugged in to a wall outlet then charging anything is just going to run the battery down. Not only that but almost all of the laptops I have had wont even charge anything through the USB unless it was plugged into a wall.

i know for sure that an asus crosshair mobo (first gen) allows power to go to the usb ports when it is off.

I have an XFX 680I mobo and I charge my stuff when my computer is off all the time, i never knew some computers couldn't do that O.o

for a laptop though, I don't think thats possible
