Since I just bought a new extern harddrive, which transfers data via USB(prefered these days?). I just wanted to know how to tell a v1.1 from the 2.0 apart?
My computer is a Dell from 2001....pretty old, but still going strong. with win2k pro.
do you get popup stateing that a high speed device is attached to a low speed port or something like that ?
In device manager at the bottom under universal bus controllers
you should see somthing like
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
If it does not say its Enhanced it's usb 1.1 and not 2.0.
well, thanks for the quick response and it looks/says: Standartd universel PCI to USB host controller. so I guess it's a v1.1. can you recommend a cheap v2.0 host controller? I, by the way, live in Denmark.
eBay is another good place to get those cheap USB 2.0 PCI controllers. I think the fastest way to tell a USB 2.0 apart from 1.1 is the transfer speed, it takes around 10 minutes to transfer 5 GB of data, USB 1.1 takes WAY longer than that.

The fastest way to tell if you have usb 1.1 or 2.0 is as i stated above
