Use broadband in another system.

Hi, I have my girlfriend system and I am trying to use my cable broadband (or DSL) internet service in her computer. I use Adelphia Cable and she use a dial up. When I try to use the cable conection, the IE do not work, is like could not be connected. Do I have to install a software??, I remember when the cable company tech came to the installation, he do not install anithing in my system.

Please, help me I am trying to download some free spyware and malware program and (Spybot-Search and Destroy, Ad-Adware and Avast antivirus but with wiht a modem take forever. If I installed from a cd the programs ask for the updates so it is not worth it.

I have to rid off of a malware program before, (Spysheriff) But I already place a thread in other forum to try to resolve this.

Any help with the Internet connection, Thank you a lot....

Are you trying to plug the cable from your cable modem into your dial-up slot? Because they are two different sizes (Although they do look the same... they aren't). As long as you have a NIC in her system, then it should be ok. It may also depend on your OS...if you have an ancient OS on her computer that would stop it as well.

Thank you, No I try the correct slot. Both OP are XP Home ED, SP2 and sorry for for my ignorance, but what is NIC?? Again Thank you.

tryyyyyypinging a websie on he computer, by going start>run> type "cmd" (w/o quotes)and press enter then type "ping google.com" (w/o quotes) and press enter, if it comes up with request timed out then you do not have any connection to the internet, but if it says "reply from..." then you do have an internet connection, just IE isn't making use of it
