Use parts of a netbook?

Hi guys,

I had a netbook and it's now dead. I was using it at school when a (fat) girl passed by the table I was sitting at and her belly kinda hit my netbook and made it fall on the ground.

However, she started to cry, and I couldn't yell at her. I kinda know her and she has no money, so I knew she couldn't repay me for it. Since I have another computer and another laptop, it's not the end of the world for me, so I let it go.

So, I decided to take it apart and see what parts I could reuse for a project. I built my own desktop computer a few months ago, I loved it, and it's still working perfectly. And like pretty much every computer builder, I guess, I kinda want to build another computer for fun, hahaha.

So, I managed to save... the screen (10 inch), and that's pretty much it, hahaha, I also have the hard drive, but it looks damaged.

So, I was thinking about buying a motherboard, nothing big (with integrated graphics), a power supply, and a new hard drive and build myself a nice little pc. I kinda want to make it look like a cube, or something like that.

My knowledge is, however, limited. I can build a desktop pc, but so does pretty much everybody else. It's not difficult. However, building a pc from SCRATCH, like without a case, is another story.

First, the screen connector. I havent seen anything like that before. There is just a little cable going out of the lcd screen and it has a 20 pin connector to it. How do I connect that thing to a motherboard?

Should I buy a netbook motherboard? (THe netbook model was Toshiba NB200)

Do you have advice to give me?

Thanks in advance

What is not working on it? probably messed up your HDD, I would just see what it would cost on ebay for the parts and see if it would be cheaper for a new netbook.

You can't really mix laptop (especially netbook) parts with desktop parts. They are designed 2 different ways. The motherboard in your netbook is specifically designed to work with the screen. That's why you don't see that connector on an after market board. The idea is cool, but for something like that, the only thing you could really salvage and re use from the net book is the HDD. Otherwise, it's all desktop stuff that you are looking for.

THanks for your replies, guys.

It was really messed up, so I just disassembled it, lol. The whole case was bent, the keyboard didn't hold in place, and the plastic cover was cracked.

So basically, if I wanted to build my project computer, I would have to take pieces from the same model of netbook? :S That might be difficult to do, lol... And expensive too. I went to search for a new motherboard, and it would cost 130$... it's not worth it.

I know you probably can't mix laptop and desktop parts, but it mean, it's just a screen, right? There should be a way to link it to another type of motherboard...

For the HDD, it really looks bad, like all scratched and a bit bent. She really threw it hard on the concrete floor, lol...

If I can't use the screen for a new project computer, what could I use it for?

Thanks,

you couldnt really use it for anything. I dont think anyone even makes adapters for laptop screens to use them on any other type of motherboard.

Damn... not the answer I wanted to read, lol, but thanks for bein honest. :) It's just that I see all these guys making electronic gadgets or custom computers with integrated lcd screens that I thought it would be possible... :(

It just sucks to waste a 10 inch screen that is still working perfectly...

If you know someone who can rig up a way to use the ribbon cable on a different board you may be in business but again, I think the chances are slim to none. How badly damaged is the motherboard?

THanks for your answers.

Massahwahl, I don't know such a person, lol. :) Seriously, the motherboard is not in good shape at all. There are metal pieces from it that fell, and it was a bit cracked. I don't think I could use it at all.

Spynoodle, thanks for those links, but I already have another netbook and another computer. I don't NEED another computer, I just wanted to make some kind of project with it. :D

So, really, I can't do anything with that screen?!? :( That's a bummer.

Take care,
