use same brand for all memory?

I have a 1x4GB stick of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 memory. The maximum amount of memory supported on my fairly newly built rig is 12GB.

My main question is should I stay with Corsair and Corsair only or is it a poor choice to use another brand that is cheaper in price but has the same specs?

I am not a gamer and although my mobo supports Crossfire, I still just rely on the onboard graphics. Would it be a waste of money to upgrade my memory to 12 or even 8GB?

Thanks for any answers and feedback!

Getting another corsair(same model and timings) would be the best choice.

And it depends, what applications do you use?
What do you use your computer primarily for?

Its a waste if not needed and no issues. I would stay with same but dont expect any change or need if not an extensive gamer. likely not if onboard graphics.
Many have said if you change manufactures of memory to keep them in same bank. do not mix them up. i would leave it alone if not needed.

Since you only have one stick, if any thing get another stick of the same. You would have 8 and it would run in dual channel. They are under 30 bucks.
