use wireless card for 2 computers

ok, here is the deal. i have a laptop with a wireless card (vista home premium) and i want to connect this free desktop im getting (with ubuntu 7.10) to the internet. it has a normal cat5 internet card, but i dont really want to buy a wireless card to connect to my wireless at my house, my question is....

Can i use my laptop's wireless card to have the ubuntu desktop have internet? i have a cat5 cable, so i was wondering if i could simply plug the desktop directly to my laptop with a cat5 and get internet on the desktop?

Yes that will work, I did it all the time even when I wanted to game on Xbox Live in the basement, I used my laptop with it's WiFi and connected the Xbox 360 to the laptop via the ethernet port, set up the IP's, and I was good to go!
 
Well assuming you already are connected to the internet on your laptop, you will need to manually assign an IP to both machines, and enable internet connection sharing.

Now I believe the gateway will be either the IP of the wireless NIC, or of the wired NIC. You may want to have someone else verify which one it is, as I can't remember right now.
