Used video cards... Stay Away?

I've been crunching some numbers, and I've found that I can get a couple of used GTX 480s on EBay for the same price as one new GTX 470 on Newegg.

Two GTX 480s makes me drool, but the conservative side of me is very wary.

Should I stay with the new product and warranties and all that? Or is the prospect of 480s in SLI too much to resist?

Apparently, lots of other people had the same thought as me, when I checked EBay this morning, both cards had gone up over $100 each in less than 6 hours. ouch.

i would always go for new, unless its a great deal.

in general 2nd hand pc components are hugely overpriced, i browse gumtree etc all the time keeping an eye out for cheap parts, and you see some people asking £40 and up for say a ddr2 motherboard, when you can buy a brand new ddr2 board on various site for less brand new its crazy, same applies to most components.

Yeah eBay is probably not your best bet for getting PC components. I need a warranty before I make such a large purchase haha. Plus, 480's in crossfire would turn the room your computer is in into a nuclear reactor :P I'd look into the 5XX series instead if you're in the running for a new GPU. They run much cooler and much more efficiently.

I'd actually recommend against the superclocked editions. They're great, but you pay a premium for something you can do yourself. Just get the baseline EVGA card and overclock it yourself. Boom, performance of the superclocked for 30-40 bucks less.
