User name greyed out in Logon screen when mapping drive

I hope the title makes sense. Home Network is a wireless router connected to a DSL modem. ALL my pc's have Windows XP. My dad's laptop from work connects wirelessly to it fine (most of the time) sometimes the "Signal Strength" says 'low, otherwise it's usually between good-very good. Anyways, the issue i'm having is mapping a drive or connecting to via UNC (i.e \\computername). The Logon window pops up, but under 'User name' it shows '\\computername\Guest', but i can't change it to another user, because it's greyed out. " File and Printer Sharing" is checked on ALL pc's in Windows Firewall.....

Now, here comes the weird part about my dad's laptop, somehow when it boots up it stops at the Welcome screen, BUT only 1 user account is on it! How is that possible?!? I thought you had to have 2 or more user accounts for XP to halt at the Welcome Screen. Next, the name of his profiles folder in C:\Documents and Settings is NOT the same as his user account. How can that be?? Why would anyone do that:confused: I'm guessing the abovementioned points is causing the problem, true? Is there any way i can just connect to it withOUT changing the profiles folder's name??? Some help would be great.

Hmmm....well, it looks like the IT department from your dad's work did NOT want anyone connecting to this pc, probably for confidentiality reasons. Now, I'm NOT sure how that's done (NOT an IT guy myself), but did you try google?? While your at it, you should be able to find out how to change the name of your profile folder from your account's name. As for Welcome screen, i'm betting .NET framework is installed on it, and it creates the ASP.NET account, that's why XP will NOT bypass it. Apparently, this forum does NOT have many IT pro on it, otherwise you should have received a response by now....

You're right, an account called ASP.NET is on the laptop, but why does it NOT show up on the welcome screen? I haven't had time to google what could lock out remoting into a PC, nor changing the profiles name from the user account name, though.
