I've read enough about bloated profiles, and the option of moving personal folders -- to be sufficiently confused and hesitant to act. Seems to be this way with anything I seek info. on in regards to computing.
Re: User Profile size; a very good source (a pc website- pick one) highly recommends reducing this, and suggests as one fix - Do NOT create folders in your C:\ root, operating system and programs location!
Move on to another site, and several forums.... which all tell you just the opposite !!! Move large video files, and folders of large size.... to the ROOT drive!! Seriously, that's what I've found. So which is it?? My profile size is way up there... let's just use 100 Gig or so. I never knew it was a concern, nor did I know that ALL my personal folders and documents were part of my profile.
So this is why I need to boot up today, for tomorrow's computing !?? Ok, way exaggerated.... but it is slow. Little did I know that Windows Vista concerned itself with these bloated files each time it boots? Why.???? It doesn't matter if I cant change it. OR can I ?...........
By MOVING my folders under the C:\ folder ? Another drive is out of the question, at least when dealing with my Vista laptop. I'm sure I can move some files to an external drive- large video files, and more pictures maybe. MOVING; I did find the built-in option to move my "DOCUMENTS" folders, but they are a small part of the total ! With VISTA, the Video, Pictures, and Music folders aren't under the Documents folder. And these are where the bloat really exists !! The right-click menu on my logon name doesn't offer anything at all in terms of re-location.
Idea; what if I were to move these bloated folders under a different Username, then simply link to them from within my current User folders? Would there be a concern over the extended file/ folder names that will result from this action? (at least I think it would extend them) AND....will I run into the lovely "access denied" thing at each turn ?
Any thoughts, please!!
