using 2 video cards

how do you connect 2 video cards? obviously you need an sli motherboard, but whats the next step? can all cards be connected, like i have an nvidia 7600gs, can i use another one? does the graphics quality skyrocket? thanks!
 
There are two current setups, SLI or Cross-Fire (CF). You need to have an SLI/CF compatible motherboard and video cards, and with SLI only the same two cards can be run together.

Gaming performance isn't exactly double, and most games show anywhere from 50-80% improvement, give or take.
