Using EVGA Precision to adjust fan noise?

I just got the GTS 250 and I've noticed that when I play a game, the noise is louder than my 8800GT (which was completely silent). I assume this is due in part to the GTS 250 being more powerful (basically the old GTX series), but if I use the Precision software to downgrade the clock to 600mhz (from 738) would that have any effect on the fan noise? Are there any other things I could do?

I'm considering returning it and getting either the GTS 240 or 9800GT, which are the same as each other, and I would expect somewhat quieter, since they are pretty much identical to my 8800GT.

??? Are you asking if downclocking your gpu will make the fans quiet?????? If so no. If you want you can use EVGA precision to manually set the fan speed low, but chances are you'll over heat your gpu.

Some card fans are louder then others, depends on who makes it. I'm guessing yours is made by EVGA, maybe try exchanging it or getting an after market cooler. When I had my EVGA 8800 GTS it got pretty loud especially when playing Crysis.

Hmm, setting the clock speed lower seemed to make a difference in the fan noise, but maybe it was my imagination.
