Using iPhone as Wi-fi Hotspot?

Hi,

I have an iPhone 3GS, and would like to get an iPad2. I do not want to pay the monthly fee for the 3G service on the iPad, but I was wondering if I could use my iPhone as a Wi-Fi hotspot. I'm willing to upgrade to the iPhone 4 if I have to, and plan on doing so anyway.

If there is no way to do this, what kind of phone can I get that I can turn into a hotspot?

I have an Iphone 4 and can use it as a hotspot. You have to buy the plan though, Its 20 dollars to enable it and then you have to buy the GBs

If you're in the States you have to pay for tethering. I'd look into it to see what the price difference is on your carrier between wifi tethering or getting your ipad it's own plan.

Also don't buy the iphone 4 right now, next month they are releasing a new one.
