Using laptops all day at Uni/schools?

Have any of you replaced your pen and paper at your school or university, and now only use your laptop for taking notes and doing work in lessons?

If so, what do you do about battry life?

Do you always plug your laptop in during lessons?
do you carry multiple battery's around with you?


the reason im asking is im going to uni later this year to study computer systems security, and want to find the best way to
work and take notes.

Obviously you can't(easily) type everything taught at a university. But History, sociology, psychology, etc...I actually used a PDA with a keyboard.

I actually never used my PDA or laptop in more than two classes a day, so battery life wasn't an issue for me. But of course, you never want to go to class without a the AC adapter.
 
i would like to use a digital noter. its a notebook, you write, draw, paint, ... on it you copy it on your computer, you can have it for always.(PDF, docx... )

the only problem it has is just lil bit expensive.

A PDA is o expensiv if you have to buy one. but they are nice.

Thats a cool idea, but I wouldnt like it. Without physically pressing a key, it would be hard for me to know for sure if I actually hit the right one.

well, you can buy a external keyboard if you want.
the keyboard can be rolled and you can put it in your pocket or somewhere else.
 
Trust me, those keyboards are totally usless. Not that I've used one, but you have to have a perfect surface and all. I also heard of accuracy problems and limits to how fast you could type. At least with a foldable keyboard, you can type with the PDA in your lap
 
theres no point in bringing a laptop to our school because EVERY classes is filled with computers.

check with your school to see if they have computers in all their classes.
 
there is just 2 choices if you want to have your notebook during the lessons:
1-have always the AC adapter with you.
2-buying batteries.

#2 gonna be very expensive
#1 is the best choice.

cant you plug in the AC adapter in your calss?you can sit near wall. I do like this when i have the web design lessons, my school has got also 75pc with internet but every one brings his notebook.
you have to choose one of theme :(
 
I use my mine for high school, I find the best thing to do is to have it charged in the morning for 1st period(1:30 min) then charge itback up 2nd period, use battery 3rd and then use power 4th. My battery only lasts ~2 hours
 
When I was taking sociology, I used my laptop to take notes in that class. Being only an hour long, I had no problems with the battery.

If you're concerned about battery life this much, look into a laptop that offeres a high capacity battery, or even a docking station that allows for a secondary battery. The guy I worked for had a very little Dell with the expanded battery. I think he said he got around 5 hours with it. He could also stick a standard battery in the docking station for another couple hours of life.
 
i will have to look in to this expanded battery life thing. What is battery life like with the Pocketpc's/PDA's?
