Using LCDTV as Monitor?

I'm interested in ditching cable and turning my tv into a computer monitor. I've looked into google tv and apple tv, but I don't think they are capable of doing all I want to achieve.

There are 3 things I want out of this 'computer-tv':
1. Web browsing.
2. Watching streams, i.e. sports, youtube, etc.
3. Ability to play video files. I download a lot of movies.

I'm just hoping to get a little more information, as I'm not sure what my options or best alternatives are. Any helpful info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

When im playing with grand kids i can. Have to have cable, internet etc. My sony has the connections in the basement for a 40" tv. But requires and needs the hdmi or video connections. Set the laptop up and plugged into the video. Use a wireless keyboard and mouse and sit on the couch. Works fine.

Using a TV for a computer monitor doesn't work so well, it's much more difficult for web browsing and word processing due to the much larger pixels and personally I think they are more straining on the eyes. Why don't you just get something like a WDTV to stream files to your TV from your PC?
