Using Nero 7 with Dual Core

I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ S939 processor. The motherboard is nothing spectacular it was a combo with the EVGA 7800GT and NForce 4 MB. When I burn a dvd movie in Nero it slows my computer down to a crawl. I don't want to run any other programs at the same because I'm afraid it will lock up Nero 7 (which it has a couple of times). I have a feeling it may have to do with me only having 512MB of RAM. But my old computer had a P4 2.4GHz processor and it slowed down about the same if not less when I ran Nero 7. Is my computer running slower than it should be or is this normal performance for my setup. I also have an IDE drive rather than SATA. Thanks for any input.

When burning dvds the cpu gets a good load processing the original file into divisions for later burn to disk. Once the burn is finished those segments are reassembled by the player used. Some burning softwares use less processor time then others apparently.

While still seeing things bog down here when burning a dvd with NeoDVD the slowdowns are mainly seen when it goes from one process to another like when finishing the file conversion to actually going to write to disk.
