Using Samsung 26" lcd tv with pc

Ok so i've hooked up my TV to my pic via the VGA port and I want to have it so that my TV displays exactly whats on my computer monitor.

I'm using a radeon x850 for this and have come across a little snag.

I am perfectly able to have the picture displaying on both screens but I want to have different resolutions on each one, is that possible at all? The reason being that my PC monitors native resolution is 1600x1200, which is too big for the TV. It appears just fine but I only get the centre of the screen with the ability to move the mouse around to naviagte to other parts....

I've looked over the catalyst control centre which doesnt seem to have the options. If I check display settings my main monitor is set to 1600x1200 and the TV as secondary monitor seems set to 1360x768. I've tried chaging it to 1024 but it doesn't seem to want to let me...

any ideas?

you gotta install the catalyst control center, and then you'll have options for actual tv resolutions (1080x720, and 1920x1080)

two DIFFERENT resolutions, tho, i'm not so sure.

Not for a mirror, anyways.

surely it should be able to do this, such that both my TV and my monitor show everything at full screen rather than one being off the screen. I find it difficult to believe that you couldnt, especially with dual displays being used for presentations and such nowadays.....

well, in all fairness, most projectors are 1280x1024, which most computer monitors still are, as well

i think you're just gonna have to use both as seperate desktops. or just use a program like ultramon to quickly switch back and forth between displays.

dammit, complete pain in the arse!!!!

Ah well, i only wanted it over on the TV so I could play some of the high def trailers and stuff on there to see how it looked. Suppose i'll just have to alter the resolution as i do it then...

use theater mode!

any video you play on the primary display (your monitor) will automatically be displayed full-screen on the secondary monitor (your tv) regardless of what resolutions you have them set to.

So set your monitor to 1600x1200 like normal. And set your tv to 1080x720, and turn on theater mode.

had tried that but wasn't playing ball to be fair, i'll try again but i think this may be a lost cause sadly...

oh hang on, i just hadn't changed another setting for that to work...nice one all good...

ok, other question, sound for it now...i can use my PC speakers I suppose but be nice if the TV speakers worked too, guessing its just a simple wire from sound card to TV then....

3.5mm to RCA Y adapter. Plug the 3.5mm jack into the sound card, plug the red and the white RCA's to the TV's input, and your set.
