I am trying to clean and format a hard drive from my desktop via my laptop, using sata/ide cables etc.
But,, i keep getting a message saying i cant format drive as i don,t have admin rights,
How can i get around this problem.

regards

You really dont need to do that. Just use the installation cd to delete partitions and set them up again and install windows.

Thank you for your reply,
I have tried many times to set up windows 7 in my desktop, but it tells me there is no boot manager,
Some parts of the system were deleted, before i got the desktop,so i was trying to set it up again, but no matter what i do,it wont work.
So that is why i am trying to clean the hard drive out, fully, for a clean setup.
regards

Ya, and when you boot into the install CD, just click next until you get to the partition manager, than select the disk / partition that you want to wipe, and click delete. Now your done.

Thanks again to all for your help.I have tried many times to boot from installation cd,setting up bios to start from cd rom,but still no luck.
Was hoping to clean the drive with SATA/IDE cables etc,but that wont work either.
Could malware have got onto the hard drive, and could that stop everything from working,as my laptop has now crashed,??most likely from connecting hard drive to laptop via SATA.??

Malware won't stop you from booting to a CD. Either drive is bad, cd isn't bootable or just not correct boot setting.

Here is what you need to do.

Go and download windows 7 (or whatever version your using) download Rufus also. Go find a thumb drive that is 8 GB or larger. Make sure no important data is on the USB stick, and plug it into the working PC with win 7 and Rufus. Open rufus and select the win 7 iso file and select the USB stick (MAKE SURE ITS THE RIGHT STICK) And than click start. This will format the stick and write windows on it. Now go to the computer with the sata drive in it, and plug the stick into that. Unplug all drives (not including USB stick) and press power. The PC will boot from the stick by default. Once it boots to the USB, shut down the PC and plug in the internal drives. Now press power and it should boot from the stick. Now click next until you can format the internal disk and install windows.
