using upgrade key to install clean copy of win7

is it possible when you install a clean copy of windows 7 on your computer can you use an upgrade key or do you have to buy the full version

I've used the upgrade key to install a clean copy of 7 so yes, it does.

I believe the only requirement is that you need to own a previous version of Windows to be eligible for the lower price of the upgrade software, I don't know if it asks you to insert another OS CD for verification or not though.

didnt as said before my hard drive was totally clean and it was a brand new install

i formatted the hd so it was a clean isntall of windows 7

If it kicks back the upgrade key on a clean install. Start over, delete the partition and make and new one and format, do another clean install. When it asks for a key dont use one. Makes it a demo version. After the install boot to the CD again. This time pick upgrade and use the key. After the install delete the Old Windows folder.
