Are these computers better or worse for the money than something else??

http://cgi.ebay.com/8-0-GHZ-4-0-X-2...40075QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

I run several programs at one time and I need a reasonably fast computer or I end up waiting on the computer. I don't know a lot about computers, I only know my programs and how to work the programs.

Is there someone else who makes a similiar computer for the same or less money?

Am I better off going to circuit city or Best Buy and getting something there?

I purchased that computer from Ebay, but I have not recieved it yet and the payment hasn't gone through. I have tried to contact this person and they will not call or email me back, so I'm kinda worried.

The computer was suppose to cost a total of $675 and I see a pending charge of $724.61 from this company on my bank. I have asked them to explain the additional (non-approved) charges and they will not respond back.

Please help, thanks in advance,

Sam

Cancel the transaction if I was you. Someone who puts "Processor Speed: 8,000 MHz" obviously don't have a clue about PC's and overclocking. Would stay well away from that mate.

OK, that Seller is a Tool, plain and simple. He's giving mis-leading info on the system right from the start. Did you read through the entire listing?

Compared to what you would get from that Ebay listing, yes, you would be much better off going that route. Or, have you looked into buying direct from Dell, HP, etc.? Even Staples or Office Max would have better systems for better prices if you get a nice deal during a sale.

You need to email Ebay right now. Seriously, stop reading this and do it NOW, and explain to them what has happened.

Here were my favorites from the Seller:

"Some pictures were taken from the earlier version of the product and do not correspond to the latest version of the product."

"Processor Speed: 8,000 MHz "

"Process Type: Intel Pentium D processor 925 overclocked
Frequency: 8.0 GHz (4.0 GHz x 2 cores)"

"An intelligent and responsive graphics engine built into the chipset that is on the motherboard. This integration provides incredible visual quality, faster graphics performance and flexible display options without the need for a separate graphics card" (Read: On-board video )

"At the present time, we do not have the facility nor the manpower to handle customer pickup. To do so would raise prices." (Read: I build them in my parent's basement.)

Welcome to CF, by the way :)

Use ebay live help they are wonderful about helping with this type of issue. I assume you used paypal? If you did, then you are instantly covered up to $2000 in insurance. If you didnt use paypal then your dumb and might be screwed.... Dont waste any time canning this though!

At the bottom of the listing "We do not except PayPal!"

Since you didn't pay via PayPal, you could have some trouble getting your money back

Uh oh. This doesn't smell too good...
Although the seller has a (relatively) high/good feedback, you may find that you've been ripped off in this instance. 70% of the 'custom built' machine on eBay have shortcomings in one or more areas. They are often built by individuals posing themselves as larger, more reputable companies - it may take a while to get a response from him.

First, are you from Canada? It says free shipping but only to USA, it doesn't state the cost to ship to Canada.

I don't think this is a scam, as the seller is reputable. I just have a feeling that he lives in Canada and didn't wait for an e-mail from the seller, which is why he was charged more.

Sorry for not responding earlier.

I used my credit card through paypal. I was under the impression that this offered more protection than Paypal alone. I could be wrong. I would rather have my credit card go after this guy than Paypal, because Paypal won't do much.

As to the computer system. I can look past his marketing gimmicks, but is $675 for a duel core 4 ghz computer good or bad? What I mean is I don't care much if it is the XTR-9000 or whatever, does the hardware he says he is installing worth $675?

Thanks,

Sam

I'd be weary that the system would be stable at 4.0GHz, as thats a huge overclock for the Pentium D's. As for the rest of the system, it is a bit on the pricey side since it only has a 250GB hard drive and integrated video, although if everything works then it should still be fine for the money.

I would be wary that you actually get what this loser claims to be selling you. I would be running some serious tests if and when it ever arrives to ensure everything that is supposedly in this machine is legit.
