My wife is visiting her parents out of town, and shes unable to use their computer for random things like oh, checking email, posting on facebook etc. Seemingly normal events do not work on their computer.

When you go to check email from say www.aol.com and then go to mail, it will just load forever and not open the inbox.

When you go to facebook, and try to post anything the post, and comment buttons are greyed out.
She will log into facebook, but doesnt show up as online to other people.

ALso checking out some websites like mapquest.com will result in an error that says class not registered.

Now some things will work just fine, like logging onto a news site, or viewing most websites. But if you need to do anything that requires interaction ie posting, or private messaging etc. it doesnt work.

Does anyone have any idea what would cause these problems? Im trying to help her make some use of this CPU while shes away for a few weeks.

One other thing, Im talking to her on the phone now and shes saying that she is also getting this error at random intervals:
Microsoft visual c++ runtime error program:es/common files/arcsoft/connection service/bin/arccon.ac
abnormal program termination

Im pretty sure shes running windows xp as an OS if that means anything.

Try starting with a virus/malware scans and posting the logs and then we'll do some general maintenance on the machine.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
