veiwing videos

when i open some video files on my computer the sound is never in sinck with the picture, but when i seek to differant parts of the video, its fine but the picture eather speeds up or slows down...
please post somehting if you know how to help me

Can you give some details on what hardware/software your using? :)
 
Codecs. Old or wrong ones.
What type of file is the file? Once determined, you can see if their are any updated codecs for it.
