ventilation - whistling sound

Im on a laptop. after leaving the laptop on for a couple of minutes i get this whistling sound (not so loud, almost the same level as static sound) coming out of the ventilation on the back of the PC. I think this is where the fan of the CPU is.

When i put my finger to cover part of the ventilation, the whistling sound stops. Anyone know why this happens and how to stop the sound? Is the fan broken or maybe due to dust? Any help will be appreciated.

Laptop specs can be viewed here: http://computing.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/ps_12140609/113501.html

if you use the laptop a lot on your lap or your bed dust can easily enter through the ventilation. remove the fan and give it a good cleaning. i do it atleast once a month.

you want me to open up my laptop? If i do that, the warranty will not be valid anymore. no?

call up that company and ask. with my dell i am allowed to take apart my entire laptop and the warranty is not void.

Just talked with the computer shop. I am not allowed to disassemble my laptop or the warranty will not be valid anymore. Anyone got any other ideas?

i couldnt imagine any software issues causing a whistling sound. i guess you could try blowing into the vent since you arent allowed to open it up.

just blow REALLY hard backwards into the exaust, then blow through the intake... if you have compresses air in a can, or an air compressor, use thoes, just dont use it for long , or else you risk damaging the fan bearings..... but its prolly a lil peice of papper, or hair or something.... no point in seding it back..

Thats what the assistant told me in the store. Unfortunately they were out of air compressors. What I need was use my mouth to blow into the ventilation. At times, after having blown into it hard enough, the sound goes away. Then it comes back after a day or two.

I guess its just dust and needs the strength of an air compressor. Ill let you guys know the results soon.

actully.... if you use a coffee mixingstraw, or something similar in size, you might be able to get in there and blow it out
