Verizon data roaming

Then, on March 25th, I got a call from a Verizon rep letting me know I had a payment due of $256 …. and a current balance of over $7400.

Right then and there I would have pulled the "Do not call back here! Prank caller! Prank caller!" bit.

No way I would have paid that. AT&T tried to charge me $1200 one time because I was over on data charges. I told them that there was no way I was going to pay it - that I wouldn't have accessed that much data if I knew it was going to cost that much, and that they should have notified me when my bill was 5 times what it normally was. So they put me on a new data plan and charged me what the bill would have been on the new plan - which was like $200 or so.

So yay AT&T! and boo Verizon! :P

This happens on all providers, and was a big issue with AT&T and the iPhone, because it used to be that by default data roaming was enabled. In my opinion people need to use common sense. If you travel outside of your local country, be prepared to pay extra for minutes, texts, and data!!

Omega is right this happens on all carriers AT&T being the biggest hog of them all. Personally I reccomend if you are traveling out of the country and need to have access that bad ensure you call a hotel before hand as telaviv has several hotels with highspeed that is great we go there or work at least 2 times a year and secondly take a "burner" free internation phone with you and put only the amount of money on it you are willing to spend while over there.. You solved both problems in one..
