Very frequent Blue Screens on Vista, please help.

well, if i remember correctly, you have to go to device manager, uninstall the other driver, reboot, and go back into device manager, right click (update driver), (choose where to install driver from), and navigate to the directory where you unzipped the file.

did you read the text file?

just go into device manager (right click my computer, manage) and uninstall the network driver. FIRST though make sure you have downloaded the new driver from at least 2 sources because one of them is bound not to work and if you dont have a network driver you cant download another one :D unless of course you have another computer at which you could try a few. drivergenius and everest are programs that can determine your hardware and give you links to where you can download drivers from. gateway will likely have your driver on their site so look their first after putting in your computer model.

edit: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp enter your serial number and go to drivers and downloads. then network drivers. download and run. gateway drivers have been tricky for me in the past, so read the README file that comes with the driver. that ought to do it for you.

Apparently they don't list FX8040's and my serial number is invalid.

Not much I can gather with the text file.. want me to make an attachment?

A driver is a text file, the device gets the information it needs from it to run. The file should have a .drv file extension.

Impulse666, I saw what you posted about the e1e6032.sys error. But also if you do a search on the error codes like 0x00000006 and 0x00000001 you will get some other indications. So it might be the mouse driver fighting for an IRQ with the network adapter driver.

This is why I hate gateway, it wants a serial number to get files.

Did you go to that website that impulse666 listed and put in your serial number? Is that where you got the link to that driver you posted?

No, impulse 666 gave me several links.
The one for gateway doesn't even have my computer model listed, so my serial number comes out as invalid. My desktop is FX8040 but they only have up to FX8030.

Ok, well that sucks.

Just do this then. Uninstall your network card from device manager and reboot. It will want to reinstall it. If it asks and gives you a choice, tell it to get the driver from your install cd. If it does not ask, just let it install it by it's self.

Did you ever contact Gateway and ask them about this problem? Or is there some reason why you did not contact them?

Ah, that's because I have no means of transportation by car for about two weeks.

Does the install cd definitely have the network driver?

It will have it, but it might want you to tell it what directory the file is in. That can be a pain.

You can let windows just install a driver, and 90% of the time it works fine.

No don't let the disk run. When you reboot after removing the network device, it will ask for drivers, that's when you put in the disk. Not when you are booting.

If you let it reformat your disk it will erase everything. So don't let it do that.

Alright I'm gonna try it now, thanks or all your help man.

This is weird, every time I remove the device along with the driver software for it, it reinstalls instantly afterwards.

Is the system still crashing after reinstalling the drivers? Vista works a bit different than I am used to, it might do that with the new OS.
