Total = $1,268.41 (from Newegg)

Here's the links
Case (ATX Full)
HDD (Seagate Barracuda 7200)
GPU (HD 4870)
PSU (APEVIA WARLOCK POWER ATX-WA900W 900W)
RAM (CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800)
Motherboard (X38)
CPU (E8400)
Well Hopefully (and more than likely) I will be able to play all the top games with this rig, but I have a few questions...

1. Should I buy from newegg only? I mean, with resellers like Zipzoomfly I would be able to save around 200$.

2. Should I go ahead and buy the x48 motherboard instead of the x38? I thought it might be a good idea because some people on newegg had memory problems with the X38.

3. Is there anything I could get that would be cheaper but have more "bang for the buck"?

1. - Why such a big PSU??
2. - You can get a better hard drive for another $10 or so
3. - Get a quad core, price is down and they are quick, it will be good for gaming as well
4. - Don't know the motherboard brand, so not sure, but yes i would get the x48
5. - Nice case, nice graphics card.

I say get get these

Hope this alright :o

What hardrive do you suggest?

Also I think I'll stick with the duo cuz i recently wrote a thread to choose between Q6600 Kentsfield or E8400. Everyone said that the duo cpu would be much better for gaming seeing as it had a higher clock speed and has better OC capabilities.
(also there's allot of threads online that say the same thing)

Yea but all games are more GPU bound, and I've heard that there's a patch coming up for Crysis that allows for quad-core utilization (not sure if this is true). Q6600s can easily OC to E8400 stock speeds, and even though it doesn't OC as high as E8400 it has more potential (2 extra cores/good for futureproofing). Considering that you can get either for pretty much same price, I'd go for Q6600.

Also, most games that don't utilize more than 2 cores don't even need all the speed of those cores, meaning the extra CPU speed will have very little impact - Crysis is the only exception to this rule that I know of. IF this rig is purely for Crysis and you don't care that much about futureproofing, go E8400 but if you plan on using this rig for some while, Q6600 will keep you going for longer.

Of course everyone says that a faster dualcore is better for gaming, and that is very true, but in terms of potential performance (all of which, in addition, can be utilized in the future) Q6600 wins hands down, and don't forget that you pay pretty much the same price (I've seen Q6600s selling for cheaper than E8400).

Whew... I think this was a little too much writing for nothing. Oh well...

Very Very much thanks Hackapellite, your efforts have not been wasted.
I now see how a quad core would make sense and it's probably gonna come down to the flip of a coin to see wether i should get the E8400 or the Q6600.
There seems to just as much reason to get the E8400 as there is to get the Q6600.
I can't decide now.
ehh... I really can't decide now.

This definitely ties in with my quote in some way, either it would be stupid to buy the E8400 or it would be stupid the Q6600.

Oh, i saw that thread, well it but quad core is better really, it may not OC as high but it will be fine, but it is your choice,

But i put my recommendation up above for the PSU and hard drive.

I just really need to do some serious cpu studying!
I mean i gotta see the pros and cons of both.
I really need to try to meet my needs and I need to make the best purchase according to them.
My needs include one thing ~~~ Gaming ~~~
