hi guys im new to the forum so please be gentle lol

just quickly ill run you down my spec

cpu - amd athlon x4 640 3ghz
ram - 8gb corsair ddr3 1600mhz
hdd - samsung sata 2 2tb
mobo - asus m4a88td
graphics - zotac nvidia geforce gts 250

and the rest is irelevant

basically my problem is (well not really a problem) everything inside my case normally runs nice and cool, the processor came with a fancy detached side drought fan, 2 fans on front of case, 2 on back, 2 more in one of the 5 inch bays. however the graphics card runs so much hotter than the rest of the equipment and i really want to cool it down a bit, what would you guys suggest??

thanks a lot

scott

What is the temperature of the card? The max temperature the card can handle is 105° C/ 221° F but under heavy load those readings might be 77° C/ 170.6° F. I believe RivaTuner can adjust the fan speed of your card.

Download MSI afterburner and manually set the fan control to like 50%. 50% should still be very quiet but vent much more air and keep it cool.

fan speed

cheers for the advise guys, i upped to fan speed to 50% which made a hell of a difference, but then i notice that afterburner has an overclock facility too, so i clocked her right up and now im right back where i started with a card thats a little bit hot, the extra fans you can buy to go into the expansion slots, r they any good?

The maximum temperature of graphic cards are much higher than that of other components. In many cases max temperature can go over 100 degree Celsius. If you still think your temperature is too high then you can either try to manually override the fan settings or buy an aftermarket graphics card heatsink.

So go more than 50% on the fan?

i wouldn't advise putting you fan speed up that high mines around 20 and its cool all the time. when i get near to 50 percent it sounds really loud

Every card is different, styles of fans make huge differences. Some cards are loud at 40%, some are still silent at 60%. Just try it.

Also, what eash person considers loud is different as well.

OP: what kind of case is your PC in? the case I have my gaming computer in, the fans are so loud, i have my Geforce GT240 fan cranked up to 75%, and I CANNOT HEAR IT over the rest of the fans. (but even being overclocked from 2.8GHz to 3.4GHz and the GT240 being 20% overclocked (roughly) the entire system never gets above 47c. ).

crank the fan up to 100%, then drop it 5% at a time until the card is getting the cooling you want, and the noise level you want. hope it helps!
