Very Loud Processor Fan

I have a Pentium D 805, it's good but the fan is ridiculously noisy once it gets going, loading Oblivion for instance. I'm about to taste insanity because of this, what can be done? More fans to lift the burden from this one? I read about a lady who lined the inside of her CPU with pieces of carpet to absorb the noise, so I found this little carpet piece -it's more of a rug, now that I think about it- and taped some pieces inside my case door. It helps a bit, but I need something more..

Thanks to good ASUS BIOS and a nice Intel CPU my stock CPU fan is very quiet.
When the two cores hold at full throttle, I would still rather not hear anything.

I remember my wife's computer being very very loud, I opened it up and used tweezers to pull out a handful of animal hair caught in the HSF, cat and dog. (damn animals!) Needless to say it was getting very hot due to restrictive airflow, now it is quite.

My point, try cleaning your computer out, with some compressed air and what not, make sure to take precautions for ESD when opening up and touch parts.
