Very slow wireless internet, with good reception and network connection

Last week I bought a Linksys Wireless PCI Adapter with Dual Band to connect to a wireless 302.11n network.
I have "Excellent" reception and a speed of 270.0 Mbps, but my internet connection only gets up to around 1Mbit/s!! No other PC on the network has this problem, as they get internet at 12Mbit/s.
I really don't understand what the problem is. I tried connecting to another network, but that is almost equally slow.

I'm running Windows 7 and the driver is up to date. What could the problem be?!

wireless. how strong is your signal? is the router in a cabinet or something? not that it helps, but sometimes its best just to use the ethernet cable.

As I said, the signal reception is "Excellent".
And of course a cable is better, but the router is out of range for a cable (downstairs).

Are you in a part of the house (for example) that is in someway different. eg. distance, number of walls, other electrical interference. Can you use your adaptor on another machine in the network to confirm the hardware as an issue?

Can something like that influence the internet speed even though signal strength is excellent?
Distance is not too large, I have 4 walls and I don't have a lot of electrical devices in my room apart from my computer.
Unfortunately I don't really have another machine I can test the adapter on right now..
