Very Strange Issue

Every time i boot up my computer it lags like hell, it isn't that noticeable from working normally, you may see a little mouse lag every now and again and then it picks up, but with sound it is very noticeable.

It is like it for maybe 10-15 minutes and then clears up, but within those 10-15 minutes there is the possibility of BSODs and then the time start all over again. When it does get past that initial stage it is sound as you like, but it quite often won't get that far without blue screening.

The blue screens all say stuff to do with memory, such as page error in non paged area or memory management fault. I should point out here that i have memtested all of my memory in all slots and every configuration and all is fine, i tested each overnight until i first used my computer, so about 10 hours each.

To get my RAM working (all 8GB instead of up to 4) i had to up the voltages of them and of the nb but after i did that all was fine until now, so a good few weeks.

I have run check disk, i have virus scanned, i have updated drivers and nothing has worked. My system is as in my signature. Does anyone have any ideas, because at the moment i am thinking it may be a mobo issue

it is funny you say that, i dropped it back to stock to drop temps until i can afford an aftermarket cooler and couldnt boot without getting bsod, so i put it up to 2.8 and all is fine, well, how it is now. I tried knocking it up a little more and same as now so it isn't the overclock, if anything the little OC i have now makes it MORE stable

Memory timings are correct i assume? Try pulling out the extra 4gb and see if it still does the same thing with only 4gb. Some motherboards are tempermental with all 4 DIMM slots filled.

memory timings are stock, 5-5-5-18.

I have tried with 4GB and it does the same, i tried with 1 2GB stick and it seemed more stable (with stock voltages though). I used to have 2x1GB sticks though and they worked fine together, so it isn't with having more than one DIMM slot filled. With the increased voltages across NB and DIMM though it works perfectly fine with 8GB filled

So if i understand what your saying... you bumped up voltage and northbridge voltages and now its stable?

Yes, the stock voltages weren't giving them enough so i was getting crashing and bsods when they were under strain from gaming, folding etc, now they have more power (as per instructed from OCZ) my system is (was) stable, now it has gone all wobbly again

Gotta love ocz lol...NOT. i had to set mine to 1.9v(1.7v is stock on the memory) as instructed by their forums for it to be "compatible" with my 790i chipset. What happens when you run prime95? Does it fail?

If i run it in the first 10-15 minutes of starting my syystem it will, but hell it will bsod if it is just sat on the desktop, any time after that no problems. My system has been on for about 4 hours now after it BSODed twice when i first turned it on.

I am wondering if the temperature could be the issue, in so much as could it need to warm up first before it works? I know it sounds like a shot in the dark but really...what else could it be

Already tried that, stock is 1.2 i have it as far as 1.45 trying to get it stable and no luck at all still

I was thinking that too, i got driver detective (it is a pile of crap i know, as are all otehr auto updaters) and it said most of my mobo and video card ones are outdated, even though i have been to the site and put in all the newest drivers.

I am going to format my hard drive soon anyway, it is getting full and rather than chuck individual stuff out, just get the lot gone and start fresh, i do it every few months when i let myself go and it starts to get a bit chocka :P hopefully then i can start with fresh drivers and hope it was because i didn't put a driver in right by mistake or something

Lol, well when you do if you still bluescreen then you know its hardware;)

yes indeedy, that is another reason why i am doing it this time, bout to go do it now once i've backed up some RMA stuff and CoD league tables

Alright i have got vista reinstalled, updating video card drivers now (only ones i need) but so far without everything is fine, no blue screening or lag, everything is quick and smooth, it may have just been a corrupt windows file

I just a bsod :( however i think i have worked out why. I went to my bios to check OC settings and my CPU and nb were linked, i unlinked, put the nb back down to stock and all is fine at the moment. Could that have been the issue, only i have never heard of anyone having such a problem?

Oh, i also put my memory to a slightly higher voltage than that which was recomended to me
