VGA output of Laptop to HDMI @ TV

I just bought a VGA to HDMI cable so that I could hook up the VGA output of my laptop to the HDMI input of my TV so that I could view Laptop display on the TV.
The TV is displaying "No Signal".
Is there something I have to do to my Laptop to "Enable" the VGA Output ??
Thanks for any help

You need to push the video to the output. Press the Fn key on the laptop as well as the external display button (looks like a monitor on one of the function keys).

That didn't work,...when I do that a message flashes up saying LCD only,.. then the Display on the Laptop blacks-out momentarily ,... then comes back on,... TV still displays "No Signal"

There is no resolution setting on the secondary display (TV),... so what ever I suppose it's whatever the default is (Insigna 42" LCD)

Yes there is, you set the resolution for each display on the computer.

I'm totally lost,... how do you set the resolution for the display (TV) on my Laptop??
But even if the resolution wasn't set right,... shouldn't I be getting some sort of signal on the TV ??

Right click on your desktop, go to screen resolution, select the second display (TV) and check to see what resolution it's set to. If it's set too high or has too high of a refresh rate, you won't get a signal on your TV.

Ok,... I did that . and thank you for telling me how to do it,... I have set the resolution to every possible selection:
800 X 600
1024 X 768
1280 X 600
1280 X 720
1280 X 768
1360 X 768
and 1366 X 768
.. Between each selection of resolution ,... I did <FN> Key on my laptop & pressed the Ftn Key that has icon that looks like at "TV" ( which is F8 on my particular Laptop keyboard ) .... still no change in the symptom of "NO SIGNAL" on my TV... I even tried another HDMI Input port to to try a different port .... still same issue.
Any thing else that you can think of to try.... ( If all this was suppose to work,... and the physical cable that I got is defective ... then that'a a different story,... but I don't have an extra cable that's " Known good" to swap out and try... as I just received it from Amazon from China... is it possible that the cable itself is bad ???

Interesting, now when you changed the resolution did your laptop display change? I'm wondering if your computer isn't seeing your TV as a display. I assume you are on Windows 7, but if you right click on the desktop, go to screen resolution, and click detect do you see monitors 1 and 2?

VGA is analog. HDMI is digital. You aren't providing your TV with the correct signal.

The cables are only for devices that can output analog over HDMI, you would need a converter instead.

I did the following - (still No Signal display on TV LCD ):
Rt Click on Desktop - went to resolution :
Set up the Following:
Display = (1) HSD160PHW1 (2) DISPLAY DEVICE ON VGA
RESOLUTION = (Lowered to 1024 X 768)
ORIENTATION = LANDSCAPE
MULTIPLE DISPLAYS = EXTEND THESE DISPLAYS

Then I tried setting up the following:
DISPLAY = MULTIPLE MONITORS
RESOLUTION = 1024 x 768
ORIENTATION = LANDSCAPE
MULTIPLE DISPLAYS = EXTEND THESE DISPLAYS

Both different setups resulted in same ... "No Signal" on TV
Pressing "DETECT" in both setup senarios results in nothing
Pressing "IDENTYFY" ..in first set up .... a BIG "1" shows up on Laptop nonitor
Pressing "IDENTIFY" ...in the second setup senario .... a BIG "1/2" shows up on Laptop monitor
I'm thinking this ASUS Laptop of mine (Running Windows 7) just can't drive a signal to the VGA output port,... or my INGIGNA LCD TV cannot recongnize a signal from the Laptop.

Wow,.... didn't know that,.... does any stores like Best Buy carry these kind of devices (VGA - To - HDMI Converter ),... or would I be better off searching on line .. say Amazon ?
and How much would something like that run ?
